Happy Halloween weekend. Here is some fab inspiration for an ever-stylish outfit.

For all you food lovers out there (pretty much everyone right?), check out this new gourmet supermarket opening in Parkhurst next weekend:
I am also excited to try the new Pick 'n Pay flagship store that opened on the William Nicol last weekend. Forget about queues and hassles, this store is designed to be an enetre sensory experience of the pleasurable kind. The store has different fresh food sections like a deli, fish market, cheese room, bakery, all set within a contemporary, modern environment. This idea of taking grocery shopping beyond a chore is something one is starting the world over. Three examples that spring to mind are Whole Foods Market, Eataly (, and Dean and Deluca (send me your faves- would love to have a look!)
Said Peter Arnold, Pick n Pay's General Manager of Fresh Foods. "At Pick n Pay our primary focus is the customer, and this store is geared toward elevating the customer experience to levels never experienced locally before," he said. "What we have created under one roof is unprecedented in South Africa. We have combined the value of a trusted supermarket brand with the exclusivity and variety of a boutique store that ultimately offers customers a truly unique shopping experience."
I can't wait to go. What excites me is the Good Food Studio, located on the upper level, where mere mortals (and domestically disabled) can learn the fine art of cooking. Grocery never sounded so much fun!

Wednesday's guest: Walking along the Promenade
Yesterday I was in Cape Town for work. Every time I am in Cape Town I try and go for a long walk along the beach. Starting where Sea Point meets Bantry Bay most people walk along the edge of the road towards Camps Bay as you are higher up. But I prefer to walk the other way, along the Sea Point promenade. I like the fact that it is busy, the road on the one side of you with busy traffic and the beach on the other. I love the different people who also seem to enjoy this stretch - I find the people watching aspect of the promenade fascinating and turns exercise into a social observation.
Today I woke up extra early (which was a challenge) simply to make sure I got my walk in and I am so pleased I did. All along the promenade is a series of sculptures called Walking the Road. It is a pilot project part of the Public Art Policy for the City of Cape Town with the hope that there will be more public art to follow all around the city. The sculptures of the girl are so noticeable in her little red and white swimming costume.
Here are a few (with the captions which make the art even more endearing). See more of and about the project and artist here.

But wait! The Dragonfly swoops down to her, hovering right in front of her... could he be asking her to fly with him? Could she have wings like he does?
The little girl watches in despair as the Dragonfly disappears into the heights of the sky; walking on air and leaving her far behind, unable to follow.
(this one is my favourite)
Heartbroken the little girl realises her loss. A dream has come so close and offered an invitation to fly together was made so freely, all now seems lots.
(Sorry for the late post)

I so loved having Cheska as a guest blogger while I was away (and what gorgeous posts!) that I have invited her to come back every Wednesday. So look out for something a little different in the middle of each week.

Gucci coo

While I was in NY I think I bought more clothes for the babe-to-be than myself. Although I didn't go so far as to indulge in Gucci baby, their new children's wear campaign with Jennifer Lopez and her little twins Max and Emme made me want to sweep up everything in sight.
How gorgeous is this shoot? Of course Jennifer would be the ultimate yummy mummy! And all for a good cause. Gucci continues to support UNICEF and has pledged $1 million, with the first quarter in Lopez's name.

Back to reality
I arrived back in Johannesburg this morning. New York was amazing. Being back in the city both felt like I had never left and as if I was being blown away with new things around every corner. Seeing my wonderful friends made the trip. As did cream cheese bagels, iced chai latte and walking every street downtown. Endless nights, crisp fall days, the high line with the husband, and street art. Artichoke dip, Spotted Pig burger, pork buns (all of which satisfied a year-long craving). The energy, the buzz, the soul that you won't find anywhere else. I just want to do it all over again!
Happy Birthday Bailey
Friday, October 22, 2010
It is perfect that I am a guest blogger today so that I can wish Bailey the happiest of birthdays, as she is in New York I know she could not be in a better place to celebrate.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAILEY!
and happy weekend to the rest of us.
Here are some fun things from around the web:
The 1010project is a collection of photos: 10 photographers each took 10 photos on 10/10/2010. The result 100 photos taken in a single day (from all around the world).
I love these Deborah Bowness wallpapers. The bookshelf one is my favourite.
How amazing is this fishing set. I am not a fan of fishing (although I do enjoy a lazy weekend in Dullstroom) but if I had this Chanel fishing rod perhaps I would be tempted. (Okay probably not but perhaps the Chanel would give the boyfriend more luck).
And because I am an aunt to be: I cannot resist browsing for adorable baby clothes.

The boyfriend and I are going to India for 2 weeks in December. I cannot wait as ever since I started dating him he has told me fascinating stories of the country. When we first started discussing the trip, before tickets were booked and leave was approved, all I had in my head was a Vogue shoot I saw sometime last year and thought "that's where I want to go". We are going to Mumbai and Kerala, I tracked down the shoot and guess where it was shot? Kerala! So we off to a good start. Here are the pictures. Doesn't it look like a beautiful province? I am, of course, also going to be coveting Daria's outfits.

I have just moved apartments and am in search of some super cool, modern chairs (to juxtapose the ones my mother gave me, and grandmother gave her). Aren't these ones amazing?

Plant a Seedling right now
Tuesday, October 19, 2010
I love this initiative by Woolworths: every virtual seed you plant on the Woolworths Living Wall, they plant a real one!
All you have to do is click here, pick a plant (Basil, Strawberry, Spinach or Tomato) and write your name. Its fun, free and it makes a difference!

I am sure you have seen this teaser campaign all around town:

It's no longer a secret! Finally the brand that we (well, the super talented Telkom Mobile team at Interbrand Sampson) have been working on for a year has been launched! South Africa's fourth mobile network, 8ta: powered by Telkom.
Oh, did I mention I am flying to NY tomorrow?

Oh baby
The the niece/nephew due in less than three months the little sister and I are in the full swing of baby-shower planning. As such, I often find myself coming across baby-oriented sites. On one such site I saw these fun baby announcements! But they would make great invites to any grownup shing-ding too.

Beautful ads in a beautiful world
I was doing some nation branding research and came across these beautiful ads for Louis Vuitton again. The question was whether celebrities can be used in promoting a country. Whatever the answer, it makes me want to go there.
