Wedding bells

Monday, January 31, 2011

As the first day of the month of love, it's only appropriate that I do a loved-flavoured post. We started off the year with a wedding: she's an SA girl living in NY, he's an all American gentleman, and next thing you know they are walking down an aisle on her family farm in Magaliesberg!

Guest Post: Happy Weekend

Friday, January 28, 2011

Thank goodness it is Friday. So much is happening around this world of ours and today Nelson Mandela is certainly in all our hearts... Have a happy weekend.

Oh my! How unbelievable are these celebrity wardrobes? And while we on the subject of celebs, looks at this fab site, which shows off celebs riding bikes.

I adore this apartment. I am sure by now I do not need to say I love the wall covering bookshelf. I also think the giant map is lovely, as are the throws, hat boxes and wall paper. I like the way that it is super stylish but homely at the same time, I could image living perfectly in this space! I also came across Soojin Kang, and  I am really feeling what she called "dressed chairs"... how gorg is that tone of pink?

We (and by we I mean Honor's mum, aunts and granny) have decided that we are all about natural when it comes to toys and since landing upon this Etsy site, I am even more convinced. And I will definitely be buying her some of these adorable paper animals.

I am not sure how many of you watch The Rachel Zoe Project, but I am shamelessly addicted and have now signed up for her daily News Letter which I think is such fun.

Refinery 29's collection of drool-worthy Spring bags is spot on. I love everyone on them but most particularly have my eye on the Proenza Schouler striped Spring clutches.

This is what I would like to do today (if I wasn't heading off to shoot for Elle's April issue):

Dress like Bridgette Bardot and sail away

Write a whole lot of love letters (all to one person)

I would bake a delicious cake, or two. (ps. last night I made a Coffee and Walnut cake, from Nigella Lawsons book Kitchen, yum yum).

And if it is yet another rainy day in Joburg, i would snuggle up and watch Mad Men, who wouldn't?

Or I would just spend the whole day with Honor Elizabeth.

The road less travelled

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Monday morning again. So of course my mind is wondering to all the places I would rather be than at work. In my last installment of holiday pics I feature the road trip home. While we had beautiful perfect-beach-days weather every day we were in Mozambique, the night before we left there was a torrential rain storm. Which can make dirt road navigation more exciting than usual. Being a Camel Man in his heart, my father chose the quicker route to get back to the border- this can also be interpreted as the dirt road route. All was going well and we even managed to tow a truck out the mud. However, after opting for a side farm road in the hope of less mud, we slipped off the road in to the side gully and landed up knee deep  (or tire deep?) in the softest, squishiest mud.

Three and a half hours later, with the help of 9 local farm workers who spoke not one word of English, and after waiting on the main road for an hour before a vehicle drove past (clearly most people had decided to avoid this route), we managed to get out. We went through the border posts with many strange looks (although there were a couple of envious looks too as we drove past in the muddiest 4x4). An eventful end to a wonderful holiday.

Weekend line up.

Friday, January 21, 2011

Oh yes. It is finally Friday! And, as usually, the weekend ahead never seems long enough to fit in everything I want to do. However, top of my list this weekend is the launch of Market on Main - a new food and design market at Arts on Main that will be on every Sunday. What a perfect match of cool downtown venue with cool local talent +tastes.

And here are some links of lovely things around the web:
- I have one of these stitching post cards for NY - they are a wonderful way to mark your travels
- Customise this witty wedding invite to tell your own story
- This "girl on a swing" necklace would be so sweet hanging around my neck
- Speaking of jewelry, I am loving all things rose gold
- For all you foodies, check out the top 10 most mispronounced food words
- Although Christmas is long gone, there are birthdays through out the year. Be inspired by these gift wrapping ideas on a budget
- And for the web-obsesses, this Google search cushion is just for you

Have a good one!

Guest Post: I am excited

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I am super excited for AFI Joburg Fashion Week this year, which is from 14th - 19th February and the location? Well that is just it: The venue is all around Joburg, celebrating the city! I cannot wait. Some of the venues (I kid you not) include The RandClub, The Nelson Mandela Bridge (I know!) and the Joburg Art Gallery. It will definitely be a fashion week to remember and what better to celebrate than our super stylish city?

Here are some pics from last night's launch at Randlords:

Malcom and Christian of Kluk CGDT - we love the dresses they make, sigh!

Myself, one of my favoruite fashion friends, Thithi and Allana Finley (of AFI)
