Speaking of summer...

How to feel better when working hard on an icy winter's morning? Cast your mind to care-free warm weather days... Le sigh.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Monday, May 30, 2011

One of my most memorable Memorial Days was spent down in the charming southern town of Charleston to celebrate the wedding of two wonderful friends with a whole bunch of wonderful friends. Oh how I miss them all... Now that was a way to kick off the season.

Sitting in chilly Jo'burg it is hard to imagine the weather heating up, but to all those in the Northern hemisphere may it be a sweltering, fun, cheeky summer ;)

Dive in

Happy weekend ladies and gentlemen! I don't know about you but this has been one hell of a week...

And for some inks around the web:
Want a change of hairstyle but too scared (yes that's me) - this tool lets you see what you will look like with you new locks
Watch a prima ballerina model Chloe's Ethereal collection *breathtaking*
Icebreaker tags - fun idea for a party
Hee hee this made me chuckle
And a lovely little lyric to kick-start your weekend

Splish

A clear bath - I have never seen one before but it would be perfect in my bathroom.

Love is in the air

Because friends are getting  married and friends are getting engaged, and because I love weddings here are some snaps from a delightful wedding in Brooklyn. The couple was working with a tight budget so they exchanged vows in a park and rode bikes to their favourite bar to celebrate.

Guest Post: Capsule Collection

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Prabal Gurung teamed up with J. Crew, creating a capsule collection of must desired ruffles, bows and pretty colours. I think I want the whole lot!

Aunting

There is something so wonderful about being an aunt. About knowing that you will always be their family, with all the history and complexity and love that entails. My mom recently sent us (Honor's aunts) an article about the joys of  this relationship and the author describes how "I couldn't drop them like a yoga class, a book club, or a waning friendship, even if I wanted to. I have known them forever, and they have known me."

So for all those with neices and nephews out there, take a read and keep aunting (yes it's a verb) with aplomb!

Guest Post: Like Water For Elephants

Sunday, May 22, 2011

I went to see Like Water For Elephants over the weekend, which I loved, cheesiness aside. I loved the beautiful shots, the 1930ies era and the look into the circus world of that time.

Guest Post: Happy Weekend

Friday, May 20, 2011

Its Friday, although my mind is completely confused because of the mid week holiday we had this week. The boyfriend and I are starting dancing lessons tonight, don't tell him I told you. Then we having a big fat catch up with some friends. Tomorrow I am sewing a skirt inspired by Prada stripes and a birthday celebration in the afternoon.

I love these pin up pictures from the Cannes.
I think these "cute finds" are just that: cute, expecially the patterned sticky tape and the ice cream cups.
I am obsessed with Prada stripes.
I know it is old news, but a girl at work brought in her Hummingbird Bakery cook book. Sigh. I want one. The one recipe calls for 1.4kg chocolate, 8 bar ones!, 100g marshmellows, honeycomb balls. OMG.
How much fun does this houses look? Makes me want to go island hopping.

Happy Weekend xoxo

Meet the Hilfigers

Thursday, May 19, 2011

I love this Tommy Hilfger campaign (via here and here)- it captures all the goodness and classic style of preppy, American life. In fact, I am going to use the tennis court image as inspiration for my next family portrait.

Guest Post: Vote

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Today are the Municipal Elections in South Africa. I love voting: I love the queues, the wors rolls being sold to voters in the lines, I love making my X and casting my ballot, I even love the long lasting stain on my thumb.

Unless you love your life will flash by

The Tree of Life looks like a wonderful movie although no one can quite tell you what it is about... Director, Malick, has been collecting footage of natural wonders for decades to use in this film (Read more about it here).

An implausibility of gnus

I've already done a post on collective nouns but this has to be one of my favourtite (along with a charm of finches):
