Prince William and Catherine Middleton are married, now known as Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge.

Keep calm...

Thursday, April 28, 2011

The frenzy about the Royal Wedding is reaching an all-time high with an estimate 2 billion viewers of the event tomorrow. While one can easily resist the hype it is so much more fun to dive right in. Cheska will do a fabulous post on the wedding tomorrow but for now - here are some chuckle-inducing coasters that are perfect for any wedding spectating party you may have planned ;)

PS. Here are some pics around London as the city prepares for the event of the decade

Guest Post: Store Envy Revenge

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

When I posted this post about being jealous of Cape Tonians I think the store gods must have heard me as Suzaan Heyns opened her new store opposite the Bamboo Center in Melville recently. I think the store is beautiful, and reminds me of those high design boutiques one finds on secret roads in New York or London.

Guest Post: Happy Easter

Happy Easter, may it be filled with over indulgent meals, delicious chocolate bunnies and lovely long non working days.
We will be back on Wednesday.

Guest Post: I couldn't resist

I know if one is not engaged one should not look at wedding dresses or wedding magazine, no matter how pretty the are BUT Vogue UK May 2011 issue (inspired by the looming Royal Wedding) has made it okay for us, not engaged girls, to say, "wow".

From the city to the bush

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

I couldn't imagine two more opposite places than New York and the bushveld. This long weekend we are going up to the Timbavati for a couple of days and I cannot wait for the escapism that comes with being in the middle of nowhere brings - surrounded only by sounds of the wild, fires, braais, game drives and the smell of thatch... Here is a moodboard inspired by this getaway:

Top row: Ernest Hemmingway on safari in 1954; a touch of Africa on a mantle piece; animal fur in winter light
Middle row: knitted safari animals; 1920's safari camp in Kenya; safari film-legends - Martin and Osa Johnson
Bottom row: Vintage copy of Out of Africa; Keira in Africa; safari-inspired elegance; Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in Out of Africa

The Future Perfect

Monday, April 18, 2011

I have just arrived back from an amazing few days in NY. I love how immersing yourself in a new city opens your eyes to new ideas, dreams and tastes. I came across The Future Perfect on my first day in the city and  lost myself in the new concepts that filled the store. We brought these things below, but honestly, I could have brought an entire container back with me.

Paper, wire and thread Themis Mobile

Notebook of NY walls to create your own graffiti (or just a simple grocery list)

Guest Post: Happy Weekend

Friday, April 15, 2011

Happy weekend! I am so looking forward to this one, the boyfriend is back from London and the sister is back from NY. Tonight I am going to some TV awards, black tie event and of course the million dollar question is "what shall I wear?" I am thinking perhaps the floral Lanvin for H&M again?

I adore what Amber Jones said about fashion week, it is oh so true: "We all know fashion week is not only for the ramp". ps. Spot me in the leopard print.

I simply love the thought of using little yellow ducks to celebrate the rain and not complain about the potholes, have a look for yourself here.

Oh yum yum yum, this makes me want Coffee Ice Cream.

I really want to see Water for Elepants this weekend, I think it looks beautifully magical.

I think these are the best idea! I always have best ideas in the shower...

Guess what I got today, an iPad2! Eeek I haven't even unwrapped it and I am obsessed already. (So guess what I am going to be playing with this weekend).

I am excited for the Royal Wedding. Are you? It is only 2 weeks away until I am going to be glued to my tv screen watching every second.

Guest Post: House Envy

Thursday, April 14, 2011

So much envy happening for me this week, first the store yesterday and today homes. Maybe it is because it is the beginning of winter so I am feeling all homey.
Love these tapestry cushions
Love these mix match chairs
How much do I adore this Paris map? Oh so much!
Frames and bookshelves... need I say more.
I quite like this slick looking desk space.

Guest Post: Store Envy

There are a few reasons why I have store envy over the newly opened Skinny laMinx boutique. Firstly, I wish I was as talented as illustrator Heather Moore who started Skinny laMinx 4 years ago. And secondly, I am envious of all those Capetonians having her new store on their doorstep, in Greenpoint.

What is Skinny laMinx all about? Moore explains, "Skinny laMinx style is clean and clear, with a broad appeal. There's a feeling of Scandinavian simplicity, pared-down Japanese restraint, and South African exuberance all rolled into one fresh and distinctive style."

Guest Post: Backstage Black Coffee

Monday, April 11, 2011

As you know I was at South African Fashion Week over the weekend. It is always inspiring to see our local design talent. One of my favourite shows was without doubt the Black Coffee show. Here are some pics from behind the scenes, taken by Chris Saunders of Team Uncool, I think they are beautiful.
