Guest Post: Baby Obsession

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

With less than 1 month to go until the sister's baby arrives I couldn't help but blog about some baby things which I think are too cute to not post...

Isn't this little guy to stylish for words? It is no wonder he was photographed and featured on The Sartorialist. With the parents in Paris I know that our little niece/nephew will be as beautifully dressed.

I love these little heads (that sounds freaky) for the wall. For me the little bunny is the way to go... They avaliable here.

Look at these gorgeousfabric decals. They give a nursery such a peaceful feeling (and they are reuseable!) They are avaliable here.

I love the idea of not making a baby's room too baby.  The mix match of patterns and prints is just oh so pretty and I especially love the idea of a giant map in the room. It almost gives the child the potential for big traveller's dreams.

Put a bit of spring in your wardrobe

I am totally in love with Stella McCartney's Resort  2011 Collection. The botanical fabric on white is just amazing. These are just a few of my favourites but I would want any single piece in my closet this season.

Food, wine, design

The Food Wine Design Fair at Hyde Park this weekend was wonderful. Art Logic did an amazing job of transforming the roof top parking into an elegant space to taste and indulgent in some of the best design and food goods that SA has to offer. As a Jo'burger, it was great to see all the Cape Town vendors up here- and hope they make a permanent move to this city soon. The husband and I purchased a few too many food products, from mini Lebanese cheese balls, and Willow Creek olive oil to pesto from the Pesto Princess, duck rillette from Petit Cochon, sausages and biltong. Needless to say there is not much left after this weekend!

Finally Friday

For those in Jo'burg go and check out the Food Wine Design Fair at Hyde Park Shopping Centre. I love the fact that it is on the rooftop (check out other rooftop posts here, here and here), which has been turned into a magical space with tents and theatrical lighting... not to mention the expansive view across the city. Here are just a few of the tasty delights that will be there to tempt you in every which way.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving.

My favourite holiday in America (and not just because of my slight obsession with all things pumpkin flavoured)! Today I am thankful for my husband, my family, my friends, my health. I am also thankful for good food, when the straw is long enough to reach to bottom of the bottle, random acts of kindness, ideas, finding chocolate in your kitchen cupboard when you thought you were out, a stranger's smile, spying a parking spot exactly where you need one, lazy Sunday mornings, a song on the radio that transports you back to another time, a hand written letter in the post, and summer rains (the list could go on...)
What are you thankful for?

Guest Post: Pairs, je t'aime

The parents are off to Paris tonight! I am beyond jealous... who wouldn't be jealous of:

~ Walking the tree lined parks

~ Indulging in the most beautiful patisseries

~Peering through the dressed up windows

~ Seeing the outfits of every french woman that passes by

Oh and I would do almost anything to spend a day in the concept store Merci...

Invite me in

The design philosophy of this NY apartment's owners is one I aspire to: a collection of things they love to create their environment. This is the difference between creating a home and decorating a home. "She tells us she doesn't want to walk in any room and be able to pinpoint when it was decorated. She believes that her home should be an amalgamation of the items that she loves. She layers pieces from different eras that fit with their taste."

I want a star in my kitchen

This couple collection of vintage advertising posters can be seen throughout the space

I love a gorgeous picture in a bathroom to add a bit of luxury

That mirror! That rug! That bed!

MOvember

Sunday, November 21, 2010

It's almost over I know, but these pics were too funny not to post. While I do not encourage the husband to partake in November's facial hair-fund raising craze (let's face it - it doesn't suit everyone!), I have always been somewhat a fan of the mustache. My father has donned a real Russian one my entire life. I used to believe there was a secret mustache club of which all men who sported one were members. And looking at these legends below, it is quite clear that a tash makes all the difference.

Weekend wedding

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Off to Plettenberg Bay this eve for the wedding of one of our groomsman (in our wedding - not a horse groomsman). Can't wait for the weekend and can't wait to get away!

I love this pic from a wedding shoot in Havana of the bride and her grannies.

Here are some lovely discoveries from around the web:

The most beautiful parking lot in the world
Splurge-worthy beauty products
Adorable organic cotton PJ's for babes
A mattress ad capturing the essence of what deep sleep should feel like
A book or a clutch?
These pretty things bring a whole new meaning to the words "tea lights"
The greatest golf shot of the year
I would like to wear all these wrist adornments at once
Map versus reality: an interesting idea for a book about Paris
Another stop motion video: this time a guy walks across America!

Guest Post: Office to Oogle Over

I always imagine my dream home when it comes to design, but when I came across these head offices I started to fantasise about them!

Guest Post: Things I am obsessed with today

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

1. Limited Edition dom Perignon Bottles.
There is no denying how delicious Champagne is... now as if we need any excuse to buy the bottles and enjoy every sip Dom Perignon has created limited edition bottles for their 2002 vintage, paying tribute to Andy Warhol... afterall, in the days of Studio 54 Dom Perignon was the drink of his choice.

2. Gooey Chocolate Stack
I am having a girls dinner at my place tonight and decided to go all out with dessert. After all what would a girls dinner be without too much chocolate. I am attempting this Nigella Lawson chocolate stack...

3. Multi coloured pencils
... I simply love them!
