Happy Christmas and mistletoe kisses

I am probably one of the few last souls left in the deserted offices of Johannesburg... But tomorrow we are driving down to the luscious province of Mpumalanga for the annual Christmas gathering at my gran's old-world bush lodge and my family's beautiful farm.

May you have a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones. Read lots. Eats lots. Hug lots. And come back ready to knock the socks of 2013. Bury & Discover will be back in full swing on January 7.

Bye for now little Santa elves.

Brooklyn Sunday

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

It is a strange thing only seeing people in a place only once a year. Those imperceptible day-to-day adjustments become life changes. In just over a year, I saw that famous New York story of having babies, leaving Manhattan and moving to Brooklyn come true. Which meant we spent a whole lot more time on the other side of the river visiting beautiful big apartment, cool cafes, and river walks - which is wonderful in the way it opens up a whole other part of the city. Thanks Brookyn, you rock!

Happy second birthday to my tiniest, little favourite.
Light of our lives.

 Then...

Now...

Have a happy weekend

The year is winding down at a pace of knots and for many in this part of world, today is officially the first day of holidays. For me, it is just a long weekend but I am secretly looking forward to an empty Jo'burg next week.

If you are going away today - drive safely, look after yourselves, have a wonderful holiday and a happy Christmas!

Sparkly attire is encouraged

Look at this glam invite we received for dinner tonight from the one and only Miss Mathabathe.T is an amazing chef - she's the type whose soul is nourished through the very acting of creating food that makes you smile from the taste (and hungry from the memory a few days later!). As such, I feel quite honoured to be helping out with the dessert.

We have decide upon a tried and tested recipe that embraces seasonal fruit, and leaves little room for error: poached nectarines with vanilla bean ice-cream. Looks fancy. Tastes yum. And is really easy to make.

Ingredients:
- One nectarine per person
- 120g sugar
- 3 cups water
- vanilla bean ice-cream (the Extremely Creamy Madagascan vanilla ice-cream from Woolies is delish)
- a bunch of fresh mint
- black pepper

Place the sugar and three cups of water into a pot. Bring to a boil. Add nectarines and cover with a lid. Allow to boil until skins are starting to come off. There is no exact time and it doesn't really matter if it is a little longer or a little shorter. I like to put them in during mains and by dessert they are usually ready. Once ready, remove nectarines from liquid, peel, and place in a bowl (one per bowl per person). Add a scoop of ice ice-cream, a sprig of mint and crack some black pepper over the top.

It is our gran's birthday today! She is so fab. I wish she lived closer to us.
Here she is last month at our wedding.

Fulsome and noisome

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Today we have not one, but 10 words of the day. The kind of words you don't want to be caught out misunderstanding - the enormity of that error would literally make you blush, particularly if pointed out by some noisome fellow.

Have a put-your-dancing-shoes-on kind of weekend

Friday, December 7, 2012

Happy Friday little love bugs. What are your plans to kick off the festive season?

We are off to the annual Christmas Shindig at the Rand Club - a perfect excuse to don your glad rags, raise money for charity and have a jolly good time all around. We will probably also be testing out our new braai (it's what comes with being married to an Afrikaans man). Bow ties + braais. A pretty balanced weekend ahead.

One of those days

Thursday, December 6, 2012

I won't try and explain how I spent my day but it involved the second full-day workshop of setting up territories for one of my large clients, only to lose the map. Twice. Out of context this probably makes no sense. And as I said above, I am not even ging to try to explain further than saying it was one of those days.
