Featured blog: cocobutton

There are so many wonderful blogs out there to explore. Instead of just listing them on my blog roll I am going to feature my fave blog of the moment.

First up is cocobutton written by Jaxi, self described as "a busy net explorer who’s obsessed with design, vintage, inspiration and creativity. Although I consider myself a designer, words are simply another medium to sketch in the brackets of life. I am a hopeless romantic, a Leo, a proudly South African blogger. I love stilettos, wine, sunshine, kisses and friends. Romantic lyrics and cobwebbed stories. I live happily in my beautiful Johannesburg, South Africa."

Her blog is about exactly that:

The baby shower

Monday, November 8, 2010

On Saturday, my mom, Cheska, my granny and I threw the other sister an afternoon tea baby shower. We set up in my parents' garden - hanging bunting around the lawn and using my mom's collection of vintage tablecloths, tea cups and silver vases on the table. It was lovely (despite the sudden mad rush inside because of a storm and an equally mad rush back outside when the sky cleared)!

We started the tea party with a "ice-the-cookie" competition. It was quite amusing to see what can be done to a rocking horse biscuit with icing, smarties and glitter. The other activity was to make your own gift tags. Each guest got a personalised box of blank tags and could chose any items from the craft table to decorate them, from ribbons, to stickers, to stamps, to gloss. While some were hesitant at first, many an inner-craft maven was released that afternoon! Other than that we nibbled on tasty treats, sipped champagne and berry ice-tea, and chatted to old friends, new friends and family.

Now we just wait for the baby to arrive!

The Fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot;
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.
Happy Guy Fawkes!

But even it there weren't fireworks this weekend, I cannot wait for it to begin. It's been a loooooooong week. But there is no rest for the wicked: the next two days entail 2 x engagement parties (the husband's sister being one, and the lovely lady of Lekkerbek being the other), 1 x baby shower (which Cheska and I have planned for the other sister), one high school reunion, and family in town!

Here are 10 fun posts from around the web:

One very passionate basketball fan/ karaoke star!
The cutest dance shoes for father and daughter
A delightful summer snack
Crazy little marshmellows that look too wicked to eat
Fun paperclips for the stationary fanatics
And leaf ties for the stylish super organised
A weird and wonderful house in a hill
A summer shoe we all need
A freaking cute little love note
And because no day is complete without chocolate, some cool choc bar designs

I must be hungry because I am drooling over this pic. This hand-written font is perfect branding for these delicious looking home made goods. What a nice idea for a menu too!

Guest Post: Fashion Frenzy

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Seeing as I seem to lean towards fashion posts I have been super conscious of not bombarding Bury and Discover with a fashion frenzy but today I couldn't resist since this week is huge for guest designers at high street stores.

Kate Moss launched her final collection for Topshop on Monday night.
The windows of the Oxford Street Topshop store were transformed into replicas of Kate Moss's bedroom_ I have closet envy!

Here is a the ever gorgeous Kate at the launch.

Secondly, Lanvin for H&M launches tomorrow. I am desperately contacting Mylondonshopper (a personal shopper in London) begging her to stand in the queues for this assymetrical pink number (one one on the far right).

Thank-you Elle!

22 degree halo

What a wonderful name for a scientific phenomenon where hexagonal ice crystals in the upper atmosphere cause the light to refract into a rainbow. This is what the sun in South Africa looks like today.
