Two days left of South Africa being the centre of the universe. I think we will all be in a bit of a shock when the World Cup is over! I love the Keep Flying campaign which is encouraging us to remember all the good things about the tournament, harnessing the energy we created and to keep flying those flags for a month after the World Cup ends. Join in, fly them loud and proud!

The Power of Football

Only two days until the World Cup Final - said to be most watched sporting event of all time! The last live game we went to was Brazil vs Chile at Ellis Park (thank-you for the ticket Rose!). It was one of the most fun games to go to because we went with two Brazilian friends and so by the end of the night we were chanting war cried in Portuguese all the way back to the train station (where, upon arrival, we saw the last train leave the station.... but that's a whole other story). There is something so electrifying about going to the games, the spirit, the excitement, the sense of community. Not to mention the wors rolls and Budweiser :) I will certainly miss it.

I love vuvuzelas

Because there are only four days left of the World Cup I couldn't resist posting another soccer-related thing. This ad is funny and on the mark (like we've seen these campaigns here, here and here) because the vuvuzela has caused great debate in this World Cup. I love that they are truly South African, it feels good when you blow it and you don't sound like a dying elephant, they are the sound track to the ayoba spirit and they are spreading all over the world. Not only is every fan going back home with one under their arm but they are popping up in all unexpected places. Sainsbury's in the UK shortly sold out of their supply of 75,000 shorty after stocking them! And, if you have been to a game, you will know that they sound much louder on TV than they do in real life.

Ah Thursday afternoon and still lots of work to do before the weekend. I don't often long for the beach but this picture made me feel like layering up winter-warm fabrics, wrapping a scarf in my hair and taking a chilly late afternoon stroll along the sand...

USA vs Algeria

Another semi-final on tonight and then we are down to the last game! (Well expect for the runner-up game which no one watches). One of my favourite games to attend was the US vs Algeria game. Since American friends gave us the tickets we were sitting right in amongst the avid American football supporters and what a spirited bunch! I was proudly American for the day!
