SWAT

I am a fan of South African artist, Willem Boshoff, and went to check out his exhibition SWAT currently on at the Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg.

"The ambiguities of words, playful provocation and grave disquiet are ubiquitous elements in the work of Willem Boshoff. In SWAT, a new exhibition at Goodman Gallery Johannesburg, Boshoff reignites these components in a series of unique works that confront capitalism, religious text, exploitation, globalisation and imperialism, amongst other interrelated concerns. Characteristically, Boshoff does not present a straightforward stance, but rather goads us into asserting our own."

(Yes, that is a braai in the shape of Bush. Apparently at the opening the artist himself was braaing meat for the attendees.)

Neighbourgoods Market

On Saturday we went to the newly opened Neighbourgoods Market in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. What an exciting contribution to the city's revival. So very Johannesburg and so very awesome it will certainly become our weekly spot, be it to stock up on fresh produce, have lunch over looking the city, or to mix and match with the gorgeous people under the summer sun.

Nothing like a glass of bubbles to make any occasion better! I do hope that they will be appearing somewhere in my weekend. What are your plans for the best part of the week? Tomorrow night I am going to Dancing with Dada at the Market Theatre. This is part of Refuse the Hour, a two week programme of live performance events created by artist William Kentridge, composer Philip Miller and François Sarhan, dancer and choreographer Dada Masilo, video editor Catherine Meyburgh and performance director Sue Pam-Grant.

Apart from that I shall be enjoying the fresh summer weather (while I should be studying...).
