It's the weekend!

Thank goodness! It has been a long week. But I am off to Madame Zingara tonight with the sister:  dancing midgets, psychedelic contortionists and trapeze artists that double as waitresses will be a perfect way to unwind...

Domestically disabled

Since entering the word of marriage with a man you knows his pots from his pans, I have have enjoyed embarking on this wonderful side of life. However, I am not famous for my cooking: just this week I started a fire in my microwave and ruined two eggs by under-boiling them. You see, in NY one's local cafe/deli/sushi spot/Wholefoods is more familiar than one's kitchen. That is why this new coffee table recipe book from IKEA is really appealing: cooking by pictures is perfect for the domestically disabled!

We went to the husband's cousin's wedding in Clarens over the weekend and it was absolutely beautiful. So love was probably on my mind today when I came across this - another blog dedicated to love. Oh how wonderful!

Beginning of summer here. Beginning of fall elsewhere. And a new month. This Vogue cover is the perfect way to kick off what looks like is going to be a great month. The fact that it is my birthday month and 10 days in the greatest city in the world (yes NY, I am talking to you) of course helps the cause.

A truce between genius and madness

Last night was the Elle New Talent Show, the kick off of South African Fashion week. Congratulations to Cleo Droomer for his exciting collection of surprises and enticement. The theme for this year's competition was "Optimism." The judges had to explain the way in which they were looking for optimism within the contestants work. Dion Chang's description of optimism as the "truce between genius and madness" pretty much hit the nail on the head.

The event was made all the more awesome for it's venue: SA Fashion Week is now held at Arts On Main which makes so much sense when you see fashionistas browse around the galleries and stores between shows. It looks like the halo effect is at play with the creative endeavors in that little pocket of downtown Jo'burg. A special thanks to my ever so stylish sister for the ticket (and the gift tote that says "I will be blogging about the later") - she worked damn hard on this event and it really paid of!
