Happy 2012 lovely readers. I have been keeping a low profile as I have the arduous task of writing three exams in the first three weeks of January. So my head has been buried in the books and I have barley come up for a digital breath. In the meantime, I am sure you are enjoying Cheska's always-fabulous posts.

However, since it's the start of a new year, I wanted to do a quick post wishing you wonderful things for the new year. While I haven't yet made my resolutions (one can make them in February right?), this is a good wish for everyone:

"I hope that in this year to come you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world.

Guest Post: This is so True

Guest Post: Holiday hangover

I am definitely suffering from a holiday hangover, I cannot seem to shake off that late sleeping, long evenings, eating, chilling etc etc and so forth. So I decided today, being my first day back facing reality, I would share some of my holiday highlights.

Honor Elizabeth turning one (already)! And Human turning twenty-eight (I love having a twenty-eight year old boyfriend) on the same day, the 18th of December. We had a weekend full of celebrations: the boyfriend and I went to Cube Tasting Kitchen for dinner on the Friday night, d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s. On the Saturday we had his beer and burger party complete with red, blue and yellow helium balloons (and of course the tweaky voices that go along with inhaling helium). And on the Sunday we had a beautiful family lunch at our parents, although my eye was on the boyfriend all attention was, of course on Honor.

Bailey and the husband hosted a Christmas party during the week and since I am always a fan of Christmas dinner and mince pies, champagne and crackers so the evening easily made the highlight list...

We then went off to a farmhouse in Clarens for 5 nights which was blissful. The house was perfect for a family get away, enough space to not feel claustrophobic but intimate enough to have some family bonding time. We took our own Christmas tree, and certainly made use of the farmhouse kitchen and enormous dining room table. Honor loved being carried up and down the stairs so as the aunt on duty I got a work out. She also saw cows and sheep for the first time which, for a one-year-old was possibly the most exciting thing ever.

A next favorite was buying a piece of art from Haas in Cape Town. My house has a new occupant, Star Gazer by Sara Stenlund. I have been eyeing her out every time I have been in the Cape over the last couple months and this time round, we came home with me. 

Of course endless summer evening spend looking at this view had to be another highlight as were our many long walks along Seapoint promenade.

I still love the Marieke Prinsloo-Rowe statues each time I see them.

For my birthday, we had lunch at Delaire Graff Estate just outside of our old University town Stellenbosch. The food was sensational and the dessert, I had the Pistatio nougat and rose ice cream. Human had the chocolate trio with included chocolate air... need I say more. Yum. At the end of the meal, I was given a birthday plate, which had the most delicious homemade marshmallows on it and cinnamon macaroons. Double yum.

Of course staying in Bantry Bay, how can my final highlight not be waking up to this view everyday?
