Fifa Fashion

More and more 2010 designs are appearing as we gear up for the World Cup. I love this collaboration between local illustrator Kronk and Nike for the South African team kit. Way cooler than wearing an over-sized soccer jersey right?

And the Oscar goes to...

Gone are the days of watching the Oscars at the SoHo House Oscar party, or at a pyjama party in the West Village. Since Johannesburg is approximately 10 hours ahead of LA it makes watching the event live a bit difficult (although I do remember staying up to 3am to see Charlize win her best actress Oscar for Monster in 2003). This year I shall be watching it re-broadcasted tonight on MNet! One of my favourite thing about watching the Osacrs is seeing all the gorgeous gowns on the red carpet. The dresses last night were more beautiful than ever but it is hard to beat the glamour of the '50s and '60s!

Roll the dice

Tonight we are going to a friend's apartment for a board games night. What a fun idea! 30 Seconds is my favourite but I do love these vintage board games from Paul Smith.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Today is our 6 month anniversary! I know it's kind of lame to mark the months but it feels like quite a landmark :)

Design spots in downtown Jo'burg

Thursday, March 4, 2010

I spent the afternoon looking at furniture/design stores in Braamfontein and Newtown. Not only are these places great in themselves, filled with beautiful products or cutting edge art, I love that they are located in downtwon Jo'burg.

Our first stop was G2 Furniture - a furniture manufacturer which creates antique reproductions. Their showroom is in a remodelled 1913 Johannesburg factory. It is light, airy, industrial and full of great finds.

Another stop in the day was Co-op. It is a collaboration between Dokter and Misses, the Jo'brug based design company specialising in furniture, and WhatIfTheWorld, an initiative focused on creating projects for emerging local talent. Newly opened Co-op is a platform for emerging work in art and design and will feature exhibitions, events and collaborations. The current exhibition is "For the term of their natural lives" by artist Peter Eastman. Again, the space is cool and the gallery sort of merges into their workshop. It feels like things are happening, being created. I love that it is in Jo'burg.

Another exciting project going on there is Cabinet. This is literally located in a large closet sized space and features exclusive collaborations with both local and international designers. There was a gorgeous Black Coffee Jacket I have my eye on.

We finished the day at a cute little coffee shop across the road. All these places will certainly require return visits!

What to wear

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

I have started going to interviews which requires that I wear something quite different from my current casual uniform of summer dresses and the like. I have always been adverse to work wear in general because it a way to instantly look older and often slightly dowdy. Of course, not all work wear. Outfits like these make me want to dress for the job!

If possible, I would buy my entire work wardrobe from Reiss
