Carey Mulligan

Friday, May 7, 2010

I first saw her in An Education, a film about a high school girl who falls in love with an older man. I sneaked out to watch to one rainy Wednesday mid afternoon. I loved the movie and I love Carey Mulligan. She is as cute as a button and can really rock the short hair.

The 24 hours in New York, not the poster

More than a bookshelf

As you know, I love bookshelves, and not only for the book part but also for the shelf part. This bookshelf in one of the rooms in my parents' house is filled with beautiful books and curious objects and it seems the closer you look, the more you find.

The left side

An Ardmore pot

A ceramic tile

Mini dominoes

Matchboxes on the far side containing miniature, wind-up Christmas

Books, of course

The H.M.S Dragon, from the title of the book second from the right, is the ship my grandfather was on in the Second World War

The right side

Art deco book ends my mom and I found in an old shop years ago

Tiny, wooden scenes of Paris and New York, the homes of two of my mom's daughters at one stage

Miniatures from Paris and a high-polished wooden bowl

The classics

A Makaraba

Typography

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Yesterday I discovered the husband is slightly obsessed with typography when he told me he changed all the stationery templates at his work from Arial to Calibri. I, on the other hand, did not even know there was a font called Calbri. However, I do appreciate beautiful fonts and love the covers of these books on typography (they make me want to brush up on my knowledge of the difference between Cochin and Colonna!)

LEGO + New York

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

I know this has been out there for a while as it appeared in New York Times about a year ago but I still love Christoph Niemann's LEGO rendition of New York.

Blue Monday

Too much Monday.
Too little weekend.

Happy birthday Dad!

My dad's birthday was on Saturday, May 1, which he spent exactly how he wanted - on the golf course! Lucky fish to always have a birthday on a public holiday. This is a pic of my parents I took last week when we were out to lunch. I think he gets more handsome the grayer his hair turns! Although I do love the pics of my dad as a dashing young man.

You're the best dad! Have a wonderful year!
