Happy weekend lovely readers. It is my first post since getting back from India earlier this week and I am thankful that it is Friday because I am finding it rather hard to adjust to a desk job after riding around on rickshaws, motorbikes, cars, trains and buses and many miles of foot all day for the last three weeks.

But onto more global issues, like the OLYMPICS! Will you be watching the opening ceremony tonight? I kind of love the Olympics (although my watching is sort of ad hoc and unscheduled so I usually miss the great events and end up watching a random sport that I am not even aware is a sport up until I am watching).

Guest Post: Happy Weekend

I have been in the bush for the last week so today feels like Monday, making it the best Friday ever! What are your weekend plans? I am seeing friends from Taiwan tonight, wedding shopping tomorrow and then welcoming a new puppy, to be named Balthazar, into the family! Tomorrow night I am hoping to go for a girls dins and then to see Magic Mike! Oh lala!

I love these stitching postcards. They come with a needle and red thread and you can stitch the route of your travels. I bought one of Manhattan on my last day in the city before I left. It is one of my favourite things. I haven't stitched it yet.

How to secure a room at Jasvilas

I am not sure where I will be by the time you read this but chances are it is somewhere ending in "pur" (Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur?).

In Jaipur we are staying in a little family run guesthouse called Jasvilas. When I asked how we can secure our room reservation I received the following reply:

"Many guests ask us as to what further action is needed to secure a room at Jasvilas. Some day we will make a policy, complete with legal jargon, on how to secure a room at Jasvilas and how much you have to pay to cancel a room. But till we do that, your word is good enough - we'll be happy to hold the room."

Isn't that lovely? It gives me a good feeling about the place. I am rather hoping it will be like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (loved this movie!).

Watusi Cattle

The husband of one of my oldest friends is photographer Mike Rose. My favourite series is his photographs of the supposedly largest herd of Watusi Cattle, found in Gondwana Game Reserve, South Africa. This breed of cattle, originally from Uganda, is on the decline due to the farming benefits of other species. Check out the photographs here- they beautifully capture these animals in the wild. Wouldn't they make a great piece of art hanging on your wall!

I think this advise should not be  completely written off as silly and old fashioned!

I guess the instruction to never approach sewing with a sigh or lackadaisically could go for most tasks or projects.

And I love the admonishment to " have your hair in order,powder and lipstick put on" in case of visitors or returning husbands- perhaps we should all take a bit of notice of that!
