So, I am shopping around for a leather jacket. I need one, soon!

The genius of simplicity

Business card design by Fischer Portugal uses a self-inking rubber stamp and any nearby piece of paper to create an eco-friendly card for an environmental consultant.

Namibian skies

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Last month the husband and I flew to Namibia for a wedding. We were welcomed by dramatic skies of far off thunderstorms from the aeroplane and the magic continued on the ground.

It was beautiful arriving in the desert but feeling like you've stepped into a tropical paradise.

Monday's inspiration

Sunday + rain

I think Sunday and rain make a wonderful pair. Because it is probably the only day you can give into the weather, put on your comfy clothes and snuggle up with a good book.

Happy Home Friday

Friday could not have come sooner for me. It was my first full week at work since quite a while and it does take some adjusting (for the mind, body and soul).

This week's Friday's post is all about the home. Because, through a friend, it so happened that our apartment is being featured in the living section of the Sunday Times this weekend. The theme is "decorating on a budget" and, being first time home owners, we fit the bill in terms of having to use imagination, creativity and wits to turn our apartment into a dream living space (this term is relative of course) for where you are right now. So if you buy the Sunday Times, look out for us. (Note: Although fun, this kind of thing always makes me nervous)
**UPDATE: Um, I got the date wrong (blush)... Will let you know when the right date when I know.

So in the name of a beautiful living space I desire to create, here are a few links from around the web:

There are many pieces I want to nab from this apartment (including the zebra skin and the  large, Renaissance-inspired oil painting)

This paper mache bull head would make a perfect addition to my wall of horns

A fun idea for a framed map of the world

Angelika Taschen's black hallway just works

Imagine painting the outside of your house in dots

Gold + Eames... need I say more?

I love the idea of art in the bathroom

An entire room of reclaimed furniture

Kate Spade's colour-inspired decor pinboard

This deep blue bowl with gold inside would look at home in any kitchen (hello wishlist!)

It's amazing what a lick of white paint can do

A dream space (this image induces many day dreams)

Have a wonderful weekend pretty things, outside or in your homes.

xoxo

If children's drawings were real

Remember those drawings you did as a child? Imagine what they would look like if they were brought to life beyond our imaginations. Illustrator David De Vries turned that thought into reality and created these amazing pieces that no adult could conceive of alone.
"It began at the Jersey Shore in 1998, where my niece Jessica often filled my sketchbook with doodles. While I stared at them, I wondered if color, texture and shading could be applied for a 3D effect. As a painter, I made cartoons look three dimensional every day for the likes of Marvel and DC comics, so why couldn’t I apply those same techniques to a kid’s drawing? That was it… no research, no years of toil, just the curiosity of seeing Jessica’s drawings come to life."
Check out his portfolio of monsters here.

how to be an explorer

 (via here)

How much fun would it be to be an explorer?!

("Hi, I am an accountant and what do you do?" "I am an explorer.")

I think approaching your daily life as an explorer is a wonderful way to keep things fresh and awe-inspiring. I felt like an explorer for just a moment on the last day of 2011, when we went for a flight in our friend's plane all along the coast of the garden route. Some of those cliffs can only be seen from air or boat. It was breathtaking...

Hello world

Monday, January 23, 2012

240 pages of writing, 4 injured fingers, 2 gunshots (don't ask), 5 textbooks, 23 days, 4 pens and 3 exams later, I can finally start my year. I feel full of energy and excitement to make this one to remember. So happy 2012 lovely readers.
